Hey Tyrone, Hope your leg is getting better after the Florida game. I was at the Game when you got injured. My cousin and I were in shock and were crying. Alabama fans hope you come back next year. In four years, I hope to get a football scholarship to Alabama as a placekicker or as a punter. I hope you will be at the bowl when Alabama plays Oklahoma State, which we will beat the crap out of. Hope your leg heals fast so you can get back on the football field.

Wednesday, 29. November 2006

Tyrone, what's up? My name is Aaron Clarke and I am from Decatur, Al. I just wanted to let you know that I broke my right leg almost exactly the way you broke your leg. I also had severe damage to the cartilage in my ankle. My injury happened while in the Military. I am almost the exact same size as you. I am 5'9" and 185 lbs, but I only ran a 4.55 and didn't have your explosiveness ( who the heck does, your amazing). I just wanted to let you know that I made a good recovery and you will also, with hard work. My recovery took about 18 months. I promise you that when you first start really working out you may not feel just right, but that will change after about 3 months of hard running. I promise you will be just as fast, eventually. You may not have the stamina you once had, but that's OK. You may have to cut down on the amount of plays you will be in, but who cares. Tyrone you're still a force to be reckoned with and you will change the dynamic of the game. There is no doubt in my mind you will also have a place on a NFL roster after college. I'm sure that you have had to take some pain killers also, but that is OK because I still have to take them sometimes. And you can still do great things if you have to numb your leg with a pain killer. I just wanted to say good luck, and so many people are praying for you and will be behind you no matter the outcome. You are and amazing human being that people will never forget. If you ever need my help or advice about anything about your injury, please give me a call. I've dealt with it since June 22, 2002.

Dear Prothro, You are an Alabama hero. my brother has the picture of "The Catch" and when it is framed it is going on his wall. I was at my softball game when my dad made a face at a tv he brought. i knew that was a bad look. i yelled at him from the dugout and soon the whole park knew. My brother and mom were at the game. they did not come back happy :( We would have probably won a lot more games with you. I know you have gone through a lot of surgeries and you are getting better slowly. I was smiling from cheek to cheek when you brought out the ball at the Auburn game. Even though i was not there i was in Tuscaloosa. I know everyone there that was an Alabama fan was smiling too. My family wishes u the best. Allison,10 Madison, AL Roll Tide!!!

Hey. I just wanted to say hello to a fellow-tib/fib injured person. I am a cheer coach from Millbrook Alabama and last October, I was in a near fatal car accident. I broke my tib and fib in about 6 different places, crushed my right ankle and fractured my neck. Our injuries were alike except that yours actually broke through the skin. Everyone at the hospital kept calling me Prothro and I would reply what a compliment. He is an amazing man! I have always been praying for you, but I KNOW you will get back on that field. You were meant for that and God will answer our prayers. God bless you. Through him, all things are possible. My docs said I would never be able to run again, but I can! Roll Tide!

I am a 42 year old man who has followed AL football all my life, but I have NEVER taken the time to write a coach, or player directly. I am compelled to write here, however, to tell you personally that you have impressed me tremendously with your courage, heart and determination. I have watched you perform amazing acts of athleticism on the field, but what you have accomplished on the field does not compare to the challenges you face in recovering from your injury. How you face this will define who you are as a man. It it is my prayer for you God would heal your injury, and that you would enjoy a long and prosperous football career. But above all things, it is my prayer for you that God's will be done in your life, and that his plan for you would be carried out. It was good to see you with the team at the Hawaii game.

Hey Tyrone, as a 36 yr. old middle school teacher in south carolina, you have truly been an inspiration for me and my students. Being from mobile (McGill-Toolen High '88), i have "converted" most of them into bama fans, particular Prothro fans. Well, It is August and let me share a few interesting things with you.(1) As I pray for you to recover '06 or '07 is fine with me, I hope you take the appropriate time to heal (Your fans will be there even if you have to burn a redshirt-we play florida state in 2007!) (2) I went to gainesville over the summer and wore your jersey to the mall-so many people gave me props and wanted to talk about your recovery! (3) ncaa 2007 video game-I have you in multiple positions and you are great! (4) I went to mardi gras in mobile, wore your authentic jersey and received much love. The Tide great Kevin Lee even asked me about your recovery. I told him I didn't know, but a cousin of yours noticed my jersey, said you would play again, and even tried to call you at the hospital where you were having your 2nd surgery! (5) As you can tell, I wear your jersey always-It's signed by you-and they love you up here in Columbia. I have bumped into Gamecock players-Syvelle Newton for one-and they talk about how much heart you have. (6) Your emergence led me to join my local bama chapter. (7) I will attend a home game this year and rock my jersey proudly-I can't wait. I use you as a daily inspiration to give my best efforts. Thank you, Tyrone, for that. You will always be my favorite football player. I have a few games on dvd (I will always skip the break though because that is not the lasting image i will have of you. Your strong faith has made me re-commit to adressing my spiritual growth. Thanks, and remember-PATIENCE! Much Love-Roll TY! Howard Hale Jr.

First of all, I hope you're feeling 100% again and I can't wait to see you out there this Fall! You are amazing! I'm writing because I'm hoping you can help me out with something REALLY important! This may not be the appropriate place to ask, but it's worth a try. I have a friend named James, who is 19 years old, and he's battling a CRIPPLING case of cancer. He is a HUGE Bama fan! He has passed the age limit for the Make A Wish Foundation and similar organizations by about a year, so it's up to his family and friends to do WHATEVER we can to motivate/inspire him to keep going and try to beat this horrible disease. I was wondering if you could maybe send him an autograph? Possibly get some of your teammates to send him one? I know that this will DEFINITELY bring him more joy than you can possibly imagine. My husband is a UA grad student, so we're planning to give James our student ticket to any of the games he feels like coming to this year. Shaking your hand would be a dream come true for him! His friends and I are making him a scrapbook of all of the autographs, cards, prayers and well-wishes that we collect for him. If you can find it in your heart to help us, your kindness will NEVER be forgotten. Thank you so much for taking the time to read this. You can see James' website at: http://www.caringbridge.org/al/jamesb/index.htm (you may have to copy and paste into web browser) Roll Tide!

The Bear -You already are a winner - just keep up the physical therapy as there is no rush to get back - make sure you are a 100% before you step foot on the field. It is worth the wait. Just think - Next years schedule -you get to play against Florida State (which will be the largest outdoor cocktail party) / you got Tennessee and LSU at Home to finish out your career.

Congratulations Tyrone. In my mind, yours is one of the two greatest single efforts in college football; surpassing the takeaway by George Teague in the 1992 Sugar Bowl.

Dear Tyrone, How are you? Im really sad about what happened. I was there( florida game) when it happened and i almost started crying. You were awesome how you acted like it was nothing and pumping us up going out. And when the crowd started goin "Prothro, Prothro..." i was going crazy. Even my die-hard auburn fan friend (who was with me) started the chant and was in tears. If you dont get to play this coming year im going to be very mad and i send so many prayers for you. I hope God will use his healing hand on you and your leg ankle/leg. I pray for you every night and i know that whatever happens it's God's will. Get well. Sincerely, Crawford Steinberg

Tyrone, I was just checking on an update on how you were doing. Your an exceptional athlete and I've been impressed everytime I've had the pleasure of watching you play. I still remember that day you were injured and you held up you hand and gave the crowd a # 1 while you were leaving the field. I hope your doing well and your rehabilitation is coming along. Best wishes buddy and I hope to see you back on the NCAA field soon and the NFL field soon after. ROLL TIDE!!!

Dear Tyrone, I'm sorry that you won't be able to play this year, but I think it's probably best that you give yourself the extra time to heal properly. I love to see you running routes and catching touchdown passes, but I care more about your health than that. Please make sure you always do what is best for your health, and I hope you will be back to normal soon.

Pro, I know you've heard it before, but we all wish you well in all of your endeavors, both on the field that you love and off it. You have been an inspiration to all Bama fans and THE playmaker on a team that would not have accomplished the things that it has without you. You have helped carry Bama back to greatness with your skill and determination. Regardless of your progress and future on the football field, you have assured yourself of a place in the lore of Bama football forever. I wish you the best and a full recovery. You make us proud. hope you are getting better! although it is an incredible blow for the tide, it is even much more so for you, personally to be so injured. i am praying for you and your family. i consider myself the largest bama fan i know, you have given me a memory of all play memories with your catch. your play ranks with barry kraus's goal line stance in'78. i realize football is not life itself but you have given a complete stranger a memory to tell my grandchildren about. good luck in anything you have in your future-you will never be forgotten. God love. Sharon Herndon
